From Manila with Love Blog

I've heared the term 'Madame Butterfly' before in the context of someone being a 'lady of the night' or someone who is mysterious and alluring but I didn't really know its origins.

First published as a novel it has been revived, re-imagined, redone and has served as general inspiration for other novels, movies, operas and plays like Miss Saigon and David Henry Hwang’s M.Butterly

And now because of Jhett Tolentino and FRONTROW Entertainment , Iloilo, Dumaguete, Cebu, Davao, Manila and Baguio will have the pleasure of experiencing the three time Tony Award winning dramatic and moving spectacle for Best Play, Best Feature Actor and Best Director.

Synopsis: René Gallimard is a member of the French embassy in China. René is mild mannered and considers himself to be poor with women. He meets and falls in love with Chinese opera star Song Liling, a woman whom he considers to be the embodiment of the perfect woman, Madame Butterfly. But when West meets East, everything is not what it seems…. #Frontrow #MButterfly

The M. BUTTERFLY National Tour 2019 was made to bring the world-class masterpiece to those who did not have the opportunity to catch its 2018 Manila run. After all, location should not limit one’s exposure to the arts and culture.

I really want to see this as I find the plot extremely interesting and paints a look at how westerners/europeans view people in the asian regions during those time (dare I say even now). Also the fact that *spoiler* the leading man falls in love with a man in drag, as most plays during that time are played by an all male cast.

Cast of M.Butterfly

Rs Francisco - Song Liling
Aira Igarta - Song Liling (Alternate)
Olivier Borten - Rene Gallimard
Jenine Desiderio - Helga Gallimard
Norm Mcleod - Manuel Toulon
Lee O’brian - Marc (Rene's Bestfriend)
Mayen Estañero - Suzuki, Comrade Chin and Shu Fang
Maya Encila - Renee
Jasmin Salvo - Opera Singer
Pheith Iena Ballug, Ullyses Basa, Sasa Cabalquinto, Franco Ferrer and John Paul Ortenero - Kurugo

The artistic team of M. Butterfly are as follows: Jhett Tolentino and RS Francisco (Producers), Ohm David (Set), Eric Pineda (Costume), John Batalla (Lighting), Jethro Joaquin (Sound), Joed Balsamo (Music) and Carissa Adea (Choreography).

M.Butterfly National Tour Beneficiaries

The M. BUTTERFLY NATIONAL TOUR 2019 will benefit 10 charitable institutions namely: Iloilo Prima Galaw, Philippine National Red Cross Iloilo Chapter, The Children of Cebu Foundation, Silliman University Culture and Arts Council, the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation, Love the Children Foundation, House of Hope Foundation, Halfway Home for the Boys and St. Louis University Culture and Arts Center.

What is the RAWR Awards?

The award seeks to recognize local talents in the entertainment industry, build stronger ties with relevant and like-minded partners, and utilize this as a venue to express LionHearTV.net’s gratitude to everyone who supported the site since its first time to go online.

With a total of 25 awards (under 3 major categories - Lion, Cub and Pride) at stake this year, it will be a night to remember especially with a gorgeous venue like Le Rêve Pool Party.

Dress to the nines on November 14, Wednesday, 6pm and I'll catch you there?

Read on for the who's -who of nominees per category

Weddings are fucking expensive am I right? And not to mention high-stress all around. Drama-rama like there's someone paying them to act out. I can't blame the couples getting married to be stressed emotionally, mentally and physically with all that needs to be prepared—It's.a.whole.freaking.production. Where do you even start right?

Travel photographer Cole Rise who created the filter ‘Rise’ on Instagram is famous for his Insta photography. He has 906,000+ followers on Instagram. This person knows how to take the best pictures from instagram from phone. If you want to learn about some of his secrets regarding photo editing and photo composition for better travel photography, keep reading.

Last mother's day (May 13th) I was invited by Century City Mall to spend a mom's day at their event's place. Naturally I invited my mother but for reasons unknown she was nowhere to be found. I kid, she couldn't make it SO not one to let things go to waste, I had a mom's day, without my mudra.

The buffet spread was good and the decor was very nicely done. Very festive and it screamed summer. The thick cables on the floor were a little hazardous though and the walking paths were a little narrow. Maybe there were a touch too many tables + chairs(?).

The event had different programs for parents regarding parenting, beauty and food! Things like how to take care of toddlers, How to prepare easy and healthy meals for your kids and How to put on a natural face-makeup by Avon. There's also a separate kid's shark show, at the top floor, which was only accessible if I had kids with me.

This event was for PHP 999/1K/person :for the buffet, talks/tips/tricks and goodie bag (not sure if it's just for bloggers) it's...ok. There weren't a lot of people left by the time I went there (about an hour past 12PM ). It was nice though for a mom day and I still very much commend them (it's hard to handle events! ) but it definitely could use more work regarding the program and venue/setup.

Let's move on from that and on to a little surprise! What's up for grabs? Prenagen mommy Milk Drink (2 boxes) and Milna Rusk for infants (6 cookies).

Are you a fan of unusual ideas? Well, if you don't have a closet (many homes don't), you will learn to be.there's nothing to worry about because there are many back up plans to save the day.

One very helpful way to store your clothes is to use an old wood trunk. Not only will it bring an elegance to your home, but it's very practical as well and can hide things which usually turn your room into a mess. With some patience and creativity, you can transform it as you wish.

Add some colour and bring it back to life! It can be used for a range of storing ideas. Another plus is that you can hide it under your bed or in any other room. Fantastic!

If you have some free space in the hallway or behind the door, you can use it to put a small shelf, where you can place all the shoes. You can also use this shelf for storing socks. Just provide yourself with bins or boxes, label each who it belongs to and fill it with their possessions. If you just want to provide yourself with something that at least looks like a typical closet, buy yourself a clothes rack. They are inexpensive and will work great in any property.

When I was a kid, I used to hide from my parents under the bed. It was a very strategic place back then. Now, when I'm already a grown-up, it occurred to me that I can use storage containers or rolling drawers that go under the bed and make the best of that free space.

In case you have a bookcase which you don't use accordingly, you can always benefit from the empty shelves. There you can place clothing that doesn't bother to be folded. The greatest advantage of this organisation idea is that you don't have to spend an eternity looking for what you need.

I have watched many movies where many residents mimic a closet by hanging rods from the ceiling. I haven’t tried it yet but I think it can be very helpful in case your room is tall enough.

If you lack space, the easiest way to make the best of your place is by rotating clothes that are already out of season. Pack up all the clothes which are out of season and keep them somewhere safe...under the bed or in boxes in the garage. (or re-purpose them/make new clothing etc!)

Do you know what's the best part about not having a closet in your home? Less space to clean. As my home is big enough, I'm actually very happy that it does not have a closet. Since I'm not into cleaning, scrubbing and vacuuming (yes, I'm a housewife, and yes, I hate doing the housework), the basic household cleaning usually take me a couple of hours. As if this is not enough?

No closet, no problem, no cleaning! Have you used any of these tips already? Do you have other closet organisation tips you would like to share?

I just got back from the highly anticipated beauty-blogger laden beauty event of the year (featured here) and here's a little recap.

A disclaimer. I received a free pass to the event.  A "Glamderella" pass to be precise, and per pass (there are 4 categories) you are allowed access to certain areas.

The Glamderella pass had access to all the talks and the booths that offered the free makeup makeuover and hair. And of course the chance to meet-and-greet their favorite beauty bloggers/ You tubers/Influencers.

Now to be honest unless you're a super fan of the featured beauty influencers or a fan of these kinds of talks in general, getting the cheapest pass won't get you very far.

Even the second cheapest if I may be a little bold. The truest best experience (imo) you can get at the event was if you had the top 2 higher tiered passes, which had access to makeup classes and lots of freebies in the loot bag. (for reference sake I had a water bottle in mine)

The event was from 9AM to 10PM I believe and for the most part the scheduled events were on-the-dot. So props for that. I was there from around 2PM to 5. The event place itself was HUGE for the small amount of people present whilst I was there, so the booths looked tiny in contrast. It felt like nothing much was going on understandably there really wasn't much available to me. So I guess the experience felt bare to me.

Maybe my tune would be different if I stayed longer to truly experience the whole event but unfortunately my schedule wouldn't permit me.

All-in-all I would categorize the event a success as it's one of the smoothest (in terms of structure) beauty conferences I've attended. Plus the decor, props, stage design etc looked really good snaps for the organizers.

Have you been to GLAMCONMNL? What did you think? Let me know!

CJ

PS. Thanks for the opportunity Leo My!

how to throw a party to remember how to throw a party that everyone will remember

The season for get-togethers is coming and some of these occasions are better celebrated at
night. Beer pong challenges, foam parties and gourmet feasts are frequently set on -ber months when workload is stable and friends are back from extended vacations. Organizing a party after hours is a challenge because some friends opt out when celebrations are past curfew.

The best memories are made when the sun is down, however. The best DJs, international acts and cultural festivals all end up in the evening. Colorful fluorescent and LED lights dominate party places and bring happy hour to the next level. If you are caught in confusion on how to throw the party of a lifetime, you use these tips as a guide to make each attendee have a great time.

1. Select a theme carefully
Following a theme for the night would be perfect. Some common themes for night parties are The Great Gatsby, Las Vegas Casino, Moulin Rouge, the '60s ('70s or '80s will also do), Pop Icons, and other themes that bring the illusion of fun. Try not to complicate the theme. Choose one that gives flexibility when it comes to outfit choices. Picking a theme that's too specific will give you challenge in décor options.

2. Notify the attendees early
Following from the above, themed parties require effort on the part of the participants. Make sure that you give them ample time to look for the right outfits and accessories by notifying them ahead of time. A lot of people choose to skip a party because of last-minute notice. This applies in particular if you have competition like certain holidays.

3. Choose a suitable party venue
Of course, you need to choose the right place for the party. The venue should be spacious enough to accommodate all the attendees and décors. When choosing a venue, prioritize comfort. There are plenty nightlife party venues in Manila, that is if you choose to hold the party somewhere in the metro. Some places to check out are:

● Chaos in City of Dreams, Paranaque
● House Manila at the Resorts World, Paranaque
● Prime Upscale Club in Tomas Morato cor. Timog Avenue, Quezon City
● Prive in BGC, Taguig
● Skye in 28th Street cor. 11th Avenue, BGC, Taguig
● Valkyrie in Uptown Bonifacio, BGC, Taguig

While at it, make sure that the management is okay with decorating the venue. Alternatively, why don't you choose a party venue in Manila that you can tie with your chosen theme? For example, have a Mexican party at a Latin bar. You can go this route, or you may always start with a blank canvas. Your call really.

4. Plan the venue décor
Now that you've picked a fitting venue, the next step is to determine how are you going to dress up the place. Following a theme, your goal is to create an atmosphere where attendees would feel like they are being transported to a different place. Such undertaking requires a keen attention to detail. Always, always, always factor in the dimension of the available space. This means having an ocular inspection way ahead of time so you can plan your décors properly.

5. Plan the menu
Your choices of foods and drinks should also adhere to your preferred theme. The venue management may take care of this portion but make sure that the people understand your menu requirements. Yes, the food alone can make or break your party! So, make it memorable for your guests too. They may forget the décors but never the food and drinks.

Planning a night party is a mighty undertaking, but that doesn't mean you cannot tackle the task. Make it fun and memorable! And such stance applies to all aspects—from the theme to the invites to the venue, décors and menu. If you prepared for it, your themed party would definitely become a success.

Tea drinker? Then read on.

There's no denying that I'm an avid fan of tea and that consequently extends to (legitimate not those powdered ones) milk teas. So hearing about Php20 milk teas from a notable brand, my brain doesn't need any more convincing other than, "MILK TEA?".

You're rushing. You don't want to stress anymore than you need to. You need a quick gift idea STAT. Here's a list. No time to waste!

Would you trust your servers, the kitchen and the restaurant itself when your sense of sight is completely inhibited?

It's November! A few more days until you-know-what and Ugh. THE YEAR HAS FUCKING FLOWN RIGHT BEFORE MY FACE AND I CANNOT. I bet you guys already have your Christmas decorations on and are in full Christmas spirit once Halloween came to an end. We start prepping pretty early here in the Philippines don't we? What's up with that though? :))

No really, can someone tell me?

Majority of 2015 I was feeling unqualified and insatiable, unworthy and bullheaded. I was feeling down but I didn't really like that; It didn't feel good so I trudged on. I denied what I was feeling and the more I did that and the more my life refused to adhere to what I was envisioning, the heavier my heart sank.

In retrospect I didn't realize that I had a lot going for me this past year, i.e. my blog. It's easy to overlook the small accomplishments in face of your perceived "goals" or success. I like to think I've grown this past year. :)

I already know and understand everything below but I do slip sometimes so I like to remind myself of these nuggets of wisdom. Here are five things I want to take in with me into 2016.

Never compare your life to others
It is extremely easy to compare how your life is going to your peer's when you open your Facebook. Extremely easy. Those "instagram models" and young hot celebrities that go to exotic places before they're even legal to drink can make some put on those emerald green shades.

But you have to understand, what people post on their social profiles are highlights of what they want you to see.  Most of these are stories they concocted to make it seem like their life is smooth sailing all the way, but it's rarely that. Everyone has struggles, they might not just post it.

Your success is defined by you. Not by your school, parents, friends and society.
Have a great job after college. Get an amazing house by 30. Have a family before 35.  Retire by 40. Have your own thriving start-up as soon as you can. Etc. Etc. Etc. You know how that goes.

Remember, this is your life. Your rules. Success for a fisherman is getting enough to sell and take home for the family whilst success for a CEO might be closing a billion-dollar deal. Success is subjective. It's a state of mind. It differs from person to person.

Celebrate those "small" accomplishments!
Getting up early for 2 weeks straight after perpetually being a night owl. Quitting caffeine after years of being a coffee junkie. Signing up for a dance class when you have two left feet.

Those things might seem inconsequential compared to your other "real" "adult" goals, but habits and long term success start from those little seemingly inconsequential things. So pat yourself on the back. It might not seem much for now but keeping to consistency very rarely doesn't pay off.

If your friendship/relationship becomes toxic. Walk away.
Friends. Family. Business. Bottom line if they're hurting you even after civil communication and trying to understand them, just leave. Not that you should burn bridges, you should just walk away.

It's not giving up. It's choosing your happiness.

Don't be afraid to say yes. Don't be afraid to say no.
It's tricky. "Fear of missing out" is a real and valid thing. It's also not good to agree to everything then force yourself to enjoy it. But once you get to master it you know who to say no to or who to say yes to. Including opportunities.

My blog didn't start picking up until late 2014 to early 2015. At the start of last year, I've been consistent with posts, pictures and updates. I said yes to most opportunities that fell on my lap. Opportunities that made me grow as a professional and as a person and if it weren't for that I wouldn't have met new and interesting people. I wasn't afraid to say no too. Other things that fell on my lap felt off-brand and just off  period, so I politely refused. And that's ok.

How about you? Any life lessons you learned last 2015? How are you planning to attack 2016? :)

xx,
CJ

Happy Holidays! Hope you had a satisfying Christmas. Whether it was boisterous or a quiet affair or you prefer to skip over the occasion for reasons, it's all good. As long as you're happy. For me personally, it was the same as last year. Kids running around. The teens grouping in one corner. The parentals catching up/cooking/watching. Me and my sister - on the sofas. We did the get-together a couple of days earlier, so by Christmas eve I was pretty much over it.

And the brooding/anxiety/pity party in my head starts anew.

Let's take in the fact that it's a few more days 'til the new year. Days. DAYS. That fact is eating my brains out because life + career + expectations + reality isn't all what I had in mind by this time of the year. Sigh.

Listening to
The Weeknd's new drops.

Reading
Breakfast with Scot. I will get to it swear.

Watching
The end of the year fly by.

Loving
The cool nights.

Wishing and Hoping and Dreaming
********** *** ****** ***** ****
It's a secret. I decided to go the superstitious route this time. Talking and writing about it before hasn't made anything materialize so...

How was your Christmas? Get anything you really wanted?

CJ

Remember the lists and those resolutions you wrote {or thought of} at the beginning of 2012? Yes, those lists. The “I will vow to eat only organic stuff and exercise more” and “I won’t spend so much on clothes and makeup so I can travel more” Etcetera. Etcetera. Etcetera . Do you know why they went haywire and never seem to push through, which in turn leaves you feeling depressed and which consequently makes you completely forget those promises and then New Year comes around and you’re back to doing what exactly?

Making promises you know you can’t keep? Or showing the world that, here you are making more resolutions {most of which are the same ones you made the year before} which will fizzle out before you reach the middle of the New Year.

Why does this happen?

Glee Cast - Santa Baby by lucidonline

I've always liked this song. Not only is it almost always sung by women. It’s always sung by GEORGEOUS and SEXY women.

I’ll be posting some Christmas songs every day until Christmas. Just to make the days more colorful by filling them with awesome music.

The song is by Naya Rivera from (Santana) from Glee! Her voice is luscious. Like velvet.Mmmmm red velvet.

How about you? What’s your favorite Christmas song?

Comment the link to your post about your favorite Christmas song/s!
