From Manila with Love Blog

I've been hearing about this Galleon trade inspired restaurant for a while now and while Manila de Acapulco aka Madeca's buzz has died down in 2018, they're still going strong as evidenced by their newest branch at Serendra.

An any-time-of-the-day kind of joint this Fil-Mex restaurant initially caught my eye because of its vibrant branding. The logo, menu, interiors and prints SCREAM fun. But like clean-contemporary-modern-fun.

Madeca, The Podium branch

I went for the most typical fare : Spinach and Mushroom Quesadillas with Mojitos (adult excuse: because it was happy hour.).

The dish as simple as it is, was done well and did not disappoint. The Mojitos were really tasty too. I believe they were dalandan? I forgot.

Mushroom and Spinach quesadillas. Look at that CHEESE melt.

Yummy Mojito! My favorite. Well...one of.

If you're wondering about the staff, they were nice and accommodating which is a huge thing for me. If the staff are irate and make known they'd rather be anywhere else but there (you know that ones) I won't waste another breath at the area. #ByeForever

Inspired by the Galleon trade, this affordable and reasonably priced resto is a good bet for a quick bite without resorting to the usual fast food.

Have you tried this? Any favorite Mexican restaurants? I've tried El Chupacabra and their sister restaurant which also serve mexican fares. Might just visit Madeca's Serendra branch. :)

xx,
CJ

PS. Taco Bell is pretty good though so no hate for them
PPS.I visited Madeca a year ago or so but I figure this review is still good. Hehe

You know the feeling when you've stumbled on a deal that's just too good to pass up? Same. Add in the fact that it's Korean food from a newly opened restaurant and that it's P99 with unlimited side dishes. *breathing heavily*

Jin Joo Korean Grill at Eastwood has been teasing people local to the area (usually office workers) for the longest time, waiting for it to finally open its doors. Last Feb 23rd, Friday, we were finally graced with their official presence. And with Metrodeal offering P99 Samgyeopsal (yes imma repeat it) with unlimited side dishes for two people, I didn't hesitate.

Despite calling ahead and reserving, there was a mishap with the number of people who dropped in without reservations so we ended up waiting an additional 30-40 minutes. The front of the house/hostess was and courteous enough to relay what transpired.

Upon entering you're bombarded with color. From quirky murals, framed art, bright neon signs and mod styled furnishings to wooden tables and seats and soft couches- -it's a feast for the eyes. I found it extremely pleasing. The over-all vibe was very colorful. Very youthful. And extremely instragrammable. Every. Single. Corner.

We had a peek of the menu and just ordered one bowl of rice. Ordering is easy if ever the set wasn't enough, but it was more than enough (I don't usually eat rice plus unli sidedishes. Hello.)

2 moderately thin slabs of pork were served along with 6 side dishes and a handful of lettuce.

Note: Rice isn't included so better buy a bowl or two. Pork + (small basket of) Lettuce + Sidedishes are the only inclusions.

I thoroughly enjoyed the sidedishes, especially the picked radishes, kimchi (duh) and tofu + bean sprout.

According to the servers, you can only use the grill on the table if you order and additional set otherwise they will grill the orders in the kitchen.

The pork wasn't the most lovingly grilled. Despite the nice looking char marks, these tasted bitter because some parts turned out burnt and the meat itself was a little tough. On another note, great looking plates.

Would I come back? Maybe. Was the set worth it? Yes, for the delicious sidedishes. If not for the tough and charred meat the whole experience would be a 10/10, for sure.

Have you tried Jin Joo? Do you like Korean grills in general? We have quite a few here in Manila don't we?

xx,
CJ

PS. Their side dishes change every day according to one of the servers I asked.

Would you trust your servers, the kitchen and the restaurant itself when your sense of sight is completely inhibited?

So my penchant for Kbeauty has always come hand-in-hand with Korean cuisine. I'm always on the lookout for food and restaurants that I haven't tried. I wanted to try one of the many Korean restaurants/cafes in Ortigas and I decided on Sopoong Food House. I wanted something cold that day (we went there during the heat wave here in the PH around March or April) so cold desserts were the goal.

Create-your-own and made-on-the-fly burgers aren't new to the food scene. But one that's at the same price point (plus actually good) as the heavily processed and controversial fast-food burgers - now that's something new. Well at least to me.

After a few hours of hard-core and sweat-induced lollygagging, my sister and I went to Megamall's (Makati) food area (directly facing the supermarket) to satisfy our hunger and settled upon Fuel Burgers for our my burger craving.

The wait wasn't that long and the process was fairly easy since the menu wasn't complicated as let's say Teddy's. I take so long ordering from there; so many options. (one might argue that it's too many.)

The decent-sized meal was plated on a wooden board with parchment paper to soak up some drippings. A+ people. The plastic utensils were a little useless since they can't cut shit still, A+ on the presentation.

The vegetables still had some bite to them, the patty was seasoned enough and cooked well. Not the glued together kind of meat (you know the kind). The buns were soft, fluffy and had some denseness to it. The oatmeal crumbs on the top made for a good looking bun.

As for the fries. They were okay. As standard as I fry can be.

All in all it was good. The meal with the drink I believe was around Php 190? Give or take Php 200. It was absolutely value for the money. 100% I would go there again. Don't expect a ton of seating though as the spacing allocated to each "restaurant" at the food area is limited.

I don't know if it was only a promo at the time but do check it out if you're nearby and craving for some cheap but very decent burgers.

el hijo de cabra food review 1

Whenever my sister and I go out we always make sure to check out new spots whether or not we're craving for anything in particular. Initially we went to Greenfield District for the weekend market, but apparently they changed it up so what was the usual 12 AM closing time was now changed to a very inconvenient 12 PM. Damn. [for reference we were there at around 8 PM]

So like any young'un with the munchies we set out to El Hijo de Cabra one of the few brick and mortar restaurants at Greenfield [and the slightly more upscale relative of El Chupacabra.]

Prices were fair relative to their location. Some items were a little up there in price for me but I can't say for sure because I haven't tried a lot of them yet you never know, the serving size and/or taste might justify the price. I ordered the Gringas [my staple at El Chupacabra] and my sister got the Fish tacos.

While waiting I decided to take a few pictures of the decor. The interior was extremely nice and colorful. It had a very laid-back, chill "neighborhood" vibe and as we learned from one of their signs, they're relatively new. The days we came in was actually their "test run week/day"?

I ordered the cheese, garlic and onion / cheese and garlic [I forgot which one] and it had a sufficient amount of cheese. The other flavors inside were distinct enough but not overpowering. I admit the food's nom factor was mainly because of the tasty dips [mmmm pesto]. They were good but I think the tortillas at El Chupacabra's were bigger... I have to go back to make sure. [yay!]

I can definitely excuse the "unliveliness" and "deadpan" service because they were still on a test run. Not that I was expecting them to be perpetually smiling, peppy and *clap* *clap* happy-to-serve every 15 minutes [customer service is HARD work yo] but it definitely made me feel just a tiny bit unwelcome especially since I was looking for a highlight to my visit as the food wasn't particularly exceptional.

I'll try their other offerings next time I'm in the area.

CJ

PS. We went there last August 20th.
PPS. Food blogging is hard oh my god. I will read up more on proper food blogging and of course educate my uncouth self on describing flavor. Which is 100000x harder because I don't really cook.
PPPS. I mean I do know how to cook *scoffs*. If it involves, frying, boiling, pasta-ing, soup-ing and assembling, I got your back.
