From Manila with Love Blog

No flower crowns, hippie headbands and Doc Martens here (I love Doc Martens though).

Music festivals are where fashion-rule-breakers come out to play. Where else can you expect to wear something outrageous and not get judging stares? Feather boa + boots? Go for it!

For the past few music festivals there have been onslaughts of flower crowns, daisy dukes, feathers and flash tattoos. Not that they're ugly or bad (I like daisy dukes and flower crowns myself), maybe it's the rebel in me, but they can get boring and uninteresting especially if every other person's wearing them.

A great way to keep the hair out of the face and keep your scalp from frying under the blaring hot sun is by using a scarf/turban or bandana. The flowy shift dress and gladiator sandals all tie-in with the rest of the accessories.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the prints, retro shades and bright lippie combo here? Love the clogs/mary-janes too.

A shift cotton dress is a welcome alternative to the shorts + tee combo. Easy to put on. Easy to take off. The fringe bag and the cowboy hat take center stage to this beautiful blank canvas,
The black mid-riff off shoulder and whitewash almost white jean shorts. The black booties. The choker. The shades. That cute kitty purse. THE FRINGE! This outfit is definitely frolick-appropriate. Your feet won't hate you at the end of the day and you can run-around and dance without worrying. I'd tie my hair up though because it is unbelievable hot and humid here right now in the Philippines.
Again reminiscent the this whole look including the hair is very 70's vibe. Blue and brown can do no wrong.
The peasant lace blouse is reminiscent of the ye olden times as well as the 70's with the button-fly denim shorts and "fanny-pack" but adding the milkmaid braids and very stylish mirror shades keeps it grounded in this century.

This is everything. The hair. The colour-block. The two-piece. The "Hawaiian" print. The shoes. The sunnies. On point ladies. On point.

My personal style is echoed here and if you can guess all of them feature cotton or lightweight fabrics in easy to move/dance around cuts/styles. I mean it is a music festival, you're expected to at least dance a few times. And as most music festivals are won't to do, you're going to probably be outside in the blaring heat all the way to night so comfort is key.

But like I said comfort is key, so feel free to rock a tank/tee and jeans. I mean after all you're there to enjoy good music (and good company) which you don't necessarily have to dress up for (if you look cute while doing it, that's always a plus. No judgement here) :)

CJ

If you're interested in beauty, fashion and art, you'll know that this year's Pantone colour(s) are Serenity (A light periwinkle blue) and Rose Quartz (A muted carnation).

Following my first dress pick (here) for Valentines' in collaboration with dress.ph I chose the most sought after dress colour of the year. Surprisingly the fashion world (as far as retail) hasn't churned out a tonne of Rose Quartz inspired garbs. Which is a shame since quite a few people are actually looking for it, even going to the tailor to have one custom made for that specific colour.

I admit it's really pretty. The two colours are very spring-summer appropriate, especially this one.

This particular dress is (in my opinion) sexy. In contrast to the "sweet" and "calm" pink hue, the cut, style and embellishment with the zipper takes off some of the saccharine appeal that the shade naturally emulates.

Cocktails and (dinner) date appropriate this can also be transformed for more meeting-appropriate scenarios by using maybe a white fitted turtleneck, black tights and black mary-janes. Not everyone's cup of tea but I know some can pull it off.

The price is the most surprising because it's PHP 5867 but currently on sale for PHP 628. That's a pretty big discount don't' you think? Comes in S M and L. Another good news, payment is secured by Paypal and everything on the site is returnable within 30 days.

What do you think of the dress? Definitely for a fancier date but even if you're going to the movies or whatever it's okay if you dress up! It's your body. It's your date. As long as you have fun and you feel good :)

CJ

Oh yes Valentine's Day. Where flowers are more expensive than usual and there are tonnes of chocolate and bear promotional items everywhere. Perfect excuse to date your loved one whether they're your lover, parents, siblings or friends. Or, better yet, go out and have fun with yourself by yourself. It's ALL GOOD! (If it's a Tinder date, that's cool too. No hate here.)

I teamed up with dress.ph to give you two dress picks if you're looking to wearing a dress for this heavily marketed "holiday" (can you see my eyes roll? I don't really buy into this special day tbh, but to each their own).

First up is a (LWD) Little White Dress number when you just don't feel like being your normal black-clad self for this cherubic day.

It's a very versatile cut and style I think. The halter style drawstring neckline  and the length is a little more fun and casual than the usual floor-length or mid-length number. With the right accessories this can go from casual to formal easily.

Throw on a black tailored blazer and black closed pumps or stilettos and voila. The black lace trim at the front give it a little more texture and break-up all the white. And add a little "something-something" to the dress, you know what I mean right? The key-hole back detail is pretty and sexy as well.

Available in S M L XL. Originally priced at Php 3989, on sale for Php 609. Subscribing to dress.ph also allows you to get coupon codes to further reduce your total. With secure payments via PayPal and express shipping, payment and delivery is assured by the company within 3-5 days.

Purchase your first dress this February while they're on sale!

Outfit for creative spaces

Work to Play by csurita featuring black booties

Living in a tropical country with only two seasons— sweltering and flooding, is usually not an excuse to wear shorts and slippers to work no matter how close to a heat-stroke you are in that blazer. [So put that back on intern.]

Note: It's even hot/humid when it rains sometimes.

Thankfully there are more free / casual companies out there who don't care what you wear as long as you get things done. They're a little more "devil-may-care" wherein you might find some people in the office stomping around in flip-flops.

This post serves as a menu or inspiration of sorts for when you want to wear shorts but don't want to appear TOO casual.

BALANCE BOTTOM WITH THE TOP

Shorts are heaven sent to spaces like these especially in this particular part of the world. These are not your daisy-dukes denim kind of pair as it is still a workplace : the material and cut should be taken into consideration. Because the length of the bottom is shorter the turtleneck serves to counter it by having the neckline close on top.

KEEP THE COLOUR PALETTE SIMPLE BUT PLAY WITH TEXTURES

Of course for shoes, I always have to choose boots. This suede pair adds texture and still keeps the subdued palette...well, subdued. The jacket is also pretty neutral, the cut and design however makes it more interesting. Apart from the pop of green from the shorts everything else is pretty muted, a no-brainer palette for work but the overall look make up for the otherwise [color] blandness.

USE ACCESSORIES TO ADD INTEREST

The accessories like the earrings, watch and necklace break the monotony and add a little more flair especially the watch face -with the burst of rays design- and the sun earrings. To finish the look a versatile simple leather bucket/backpack is not only utilitarian and sturdy, the off-white colour and gold hardware says chic [and matches the rest of your jewelry] whichever angle you look.

What do you think? Which pieces do you like?

PS. Yes. The 2 seasons were jokes. Get over it.
PPS. The earth is changing too fast. The ice caps are melting. There's hail and snow where there shouldn't be. Open your eyes.

Love the shoes and the trench

Hello from the very cool (literally) China. Or rather Ni Hao! Yes, if you're wondering, I'm blogging from Guangzhou, China right now and my nails have never looked more dead. (THIS PLACE IS FREEZING MY TOES OFF)

Last time I showed you some "Cool Guy Outfits from Japan" now it's the girls' turn.

Red and knee-high socks
Paparazzi-proof. Or paparazzi-magnet? I mean just look at those red cuties.

I mostly like her hair

I've rocked this look a few times before, just hate it when people assume it's cosplay

Love the textured sweater on the right and beige socks

Both are too cute for words
What are your favorites from the pictures? Care to share?

P.S. Might do a travel makeup/beauty bag. I did bring quite a number of things. :) What do you think?
