I've heared the term 'Madame Butterfly' before in the context of someone being a 'lady of the night' or someone who is mysterious and alluring but I didn't really know its origins.

First published as a novel it has been revived, re-imagined, redone and has served as general inspiration for other novels, movies, operas and plays like Miss Saigon and David Henry Hwang’s M.Butterly

And now because of Jhett Tolentino and FRONTROW Entertainment , Iloilo, Dumaguete, Cebu, Davao, Manila and Baguio will have the pleasure of experiencing the three time Tony Award winning dramatic and moving spectacle for Best Play, Best Feature Actor and Best Director.

Synopsis: René Gallimard is a member of the French embassy in China. René is mild mannered and considers himself to be poor with women. He meets and falls in love with Chinese opera star Song Liling, a woman whom he considers to be the embodiment of the perfect woman, Madame Butterfly. But when West meets East, everything is not what it seems…. #Frontrow #MButterfly

The M. BUTTERFLY National Tour 2019 was made to bring the world-class masterpiece to those who did not have the opportunity to catch its 2018 Manila run. After all, location should not limit one’s exposure to the arts and culture.

I really want to see this as I find the plot extremely interesting and paints a look at how westerners/europeans view people in the asian regions during those time (dare I say even now). Also the fact that *spoiler* the leading man falls in love with a man in drag, as most plays during that time are played by an all male cast.

Cast of M.Butterfly

Rs Francisco - Song Liling
Aira Igarta - Song Liling (Alternate)
Olivier Borten - Rene Gallimard
Jenine Desiderio - Helga Gallimard
Norm Mcleod - Manuel Toulon
Lee O’brian - Marc (Rene's Bestfriend)
Mayen Estañero - Suzuki, Comrade Chin and Shu Fang
Maya Encila - Renee
Jasmin Salvo - Opera Singer
Pheith Iena Ballug, Ullyses Basa, Sasa Cabalquinto, Franco Ferrer and John Paul Ortenero - Kurugo

The artistic team of M. Butterfly are as follows: Jhett Tolentino and RS Francisco (Producers), Ohm David (Set), Eric Pineda (Costume), John Batalla (Lighting), Jethro Joaquin (Sound), Joed Balsamo (Music) and Carissa Adea (Choreography).

M.Butterfly National Tour Beneficiaries

The M. BUTTERFLY NATIONAL TOUR 2019 will benefit 10 charitable institutions namely: Iloilo Prima Galaw, Philippine National Red Cross Iloilo Chapter, The Children of Cebu Foundation, Silliman University Culture and Arts Council, the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation, Love the Children Foundation, House of Hope Foundation, Halfway Home for the Boys and St. Louis University Culture and Arts Center.

I'm not really a sentimental type of person. But recently with the onslew of 'hugot' commercials, most of them really well done, I can understand the appeal and I can definitely appreciate it. They are a little late to the game though as I've seen a really sweet commercial way back (the vow and the Mc Donald's one)...

I know some guys who aren't Monday people. The feeling of dread usually starts on a Sunday and gradually increases as the day goes by. I also know that Tuesday is just as bad as Monday (at least it is for me sometimes). While technically not being the start of the week, it's just as far from Friday as is Monday.

What usually makes people happy? (Apart from long weekends, paid holidays and bonuses)

I always get a nice surprise whenever I hear about a locally-available brand that's cruelty-free AND vegan. There's a couple now in the market, mostly indie online-centric brands that you can only shop at through Instagram or Facebook.
Weens Cosmetics Philippines is the 1st and only brand, manufacturing 5 Free Non-toxic formula, Cruelty Free and Vegan nail polish locally. Made from imported raw materials and FDA approved. - Weens Cosmetics Philippines

I'm not crazy about nail polishes to be honest. I have a few in my vanity and I rarely use them. I'm more into nail strengtheners and nail oils. Part of the reason why is because a lot of readily accessible polish brands have toxic chemicals in them that damage my already brittle nails. This where this brands' 5Free promise comes in.

What do you mean by "5 Free"?, you might ask. It means that these polishes are made without formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, and toluene along with the allergens camphor and formaldehyde resin—all potentially dangerous ingredients that could do everything from disrupt your endocrine system to cause cancer. (via)

Being already familiar with toxin-free vegan polish brands thanks to Picture Polish, I'm happy to share with you guys that you don't have to buy abroad to get some because...Weens. :)) (Seriously though isn't the name so interesting to say?)

Posted are some of Weens polishes from their latest collection— QT Nail Magic. (Php 66) I'm partial to the Emerald green one (Voyage). But which one do you like best? Do you use vegan/cruelty-free polishes?

CJ

Do you use emojis? What am I asking, a lot of people use emojis (Yes Skype and Yahoo Messenger users, you too!). From people peppering their messages with a couple to actually sending emojis to accurately describe what they're feeling/doing/wanting etc. It's pretty normal to send a *pleading* emoji instead of typing out please oh please oh please let me borrow the car tonight.

And Krispy Kreme knows the pull of emojis in giving a little flavor to how we communicate.

This 2016 you can decorate your doughnuts with meaningful (or just nonsense, depends on how you use it) emojis through Krispy Kreme's emoji sprinkles — part of their #EmojiMagic year-long campaign.

Aside from the usual emojis available all-throughout the year, there'll also be seasonal/holiday specific emojis available... Will they have one for this coming Labor Day though?

Me and my brother went to Krispy Kreme's flagship store at BGC to go to their "Emoji Park" last February 20th to witness the #EmojiMagic first-hand and to #ShareTheKK. We took a look at the different doughnuts, played some games, checked-out the design-your-doughnut booth, took pictures at the emoji wall and enjoyed the general atmosphere.

The kid had a lot of fun...

Ok fine. I did too. I mean both of us basically consumed our sugar limit for the day within a few minutes so we were pretty jacked-up.

If you're near a KK check out the emoji doughnut sprinkles and #ShareTheKK with everyone!

Do you use emojis? Which are your most used ones?

xx,
CJ

PS. Sugar is addictive. Only take the appropriate amount within the daily limit. For the most part, I only get my processed sugar fix in coffee. Sugaaaar why can't I quit youuuuuu? *shakes fist in the air*
Burgos Eats BGC Taguig

I like to eat. Everyone likes to eat I imagine. And a lot of people in the metro love dining out as evidenced by numerous restaurants and franchises popping-up here and there. Apart from the food itself, ambiance is also a factor for me, good thing Max's Group Inc (MGI) just hatched this crazy good idea to create this cozy, engaging and conversation-friendly eating concept in Bonifacio Global City Taguig.

Burgos Eats BGC Taguig Image by MGI

Conveniently located in one of the business districts and lifestyle hotspots in Manila, Burgos Eats combines well-loved restaurants in a laid-back casual shared-space concept. Think "co-working" for restaurants! Or think fancy food courts at the mall...only outside the mall. :))
Burgos Eats BGC Taguig

Burgos Eats allows MGI—the largest casual dining operator in the country—to go beyond their individual stores and create a venue where a community of diners can interact with each other and some of the company’s loved food brands, such as Yellow Cab, Pancake House, Teriyaki Boy, Krispy Kreme, and Jamba Juice.

Burgos Eats BGC Taguig
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the hanging lights?

One of the features this shared-space brings is that you don't have to restaurant-hop to try each restaurant you want. For example, you can order from Krispy Kreme while staying put at Jamba Juice with your smoothie.

This table in the middle can be occupied by anyone dining from any of the restaurants available inside Burgos Eats. Benches and stools are also available within the area so there's plenty of seating to go around.

Burgos Eats BGC Taguig

During the launch last November 2nd we were treated to live music by  Roxy Modesto, Slow Sink and KidThrones. Sax with techno (or was it house? I have no idea) with guitar and violin. Experimental. Different. And it was really good.

Burgos Eats BGC Taguig

Mural made specially for Burgos Eat's Yellow Cab.

Burgos Eats BGC Taguig

“We envision Burgos Eats to become a breath of fresh air in the local casual dining scene and enrich the Filipinos’ dining tradition while catering to the country’s changing food culture.” says Jim T. Fuentebella, MGI’s Executive Director for Marketing.

Burgos Eats BGC Taguig

The "old-worn-out-wood" look. The furniture. The roof. The lanterns. THE SLIDING DOORS! This particular branch of Teriyaki Boy screams authentic Japanese facade. Amazing job designers.

This new hub will be a dining experience I can't wait to try with my friends soon.

What do you think? Will you check it out?

CJ

PS. You really have to go see it for yourself. I imagine it would be prettier at night, but that's just because I liked the lighting so much that time.
PPS. Here I am moonlighting as a Juicer(?). Is that how they're called? Thanks for letting me make my own drink at Burgos Eats MGI! Good thing they gave me the recipe. I just wanted to get all the fruit I could find and chuck it in the blender.

To be honest I have been weaning myself from sugary drinks, but Coca Cola's latest campaign of women entrepreneurship through small to medium businesses like sari-sari stores is hard to ignore. Especially since I like to think of myself as an empowered  woman and I sincerely believe that sari-sari stores shouldn't be called as such unless they carry this quintessential beverage that has been around since the first patented engine. (Yes, I did my research)

Now while I do find it a little cheesy, I find the video cute too and it actually isn't far from the truth. I mean, we've seen it before. These stores build a community. And these stores help families and individuals as well, who've been looking to be their own bosses.

I might not want a sari-sari store of my own, but I do respect the fact that these women don't want to work for someone, they want their blood, sweat and tears to be for them, from their hard work. They are entrepreneurs whether they know it or not. Through this Share Sari Saring Happiness campaign, we all know Coca-Cola realized this too - that these small stores and most often than not, women owners are what helps keep Coca- Cola alive and thriving.

Training courses, business advice, financial services are the only starting points they're willing to share so no other obstacles can come in the way of empowering 5 million women by 2020 or 5by20 one of the goals of the Share Sari Saring Happiness.

Christmas is definitely over and done with, but the spirit is very much alive through this gift  - it is still technically the Christmas season, and what better gift to receive than the opportunity to better yourself, support you and the people you love and become part of a growing community of women entrepreneurs who know what they want and have the support and whatever they need to achieve it.

What do you think of women entrepreneurs, women bosses or just women being women doing business like every other person out there. There are a lot of prejudices and glass ceilings, inconsistencies and unfair treatment when it comes to women in the workplace. I for one do not stand for gender inequality in this day and age.

Thoughts?

xx,
CJ

I admit, I've heard a little about PAC, but only  regarding them being a high quality professional artistic makeup brand as their name might suggest.

A makeup brand by Martha Tilaar it was essentially conceptualized as the professional makeup for asian women. So most if not all products are catered to and suitable for us Filipinas. They're apparently well known for their high quality, waterproof and long lasting makeup. But now they are easily available to end-consumers (us) which is amazing.

Given their price range I say they jump between BYS Cosmetics and Makeup Factory sometimes a little more.

And now to the main reason for this post.

Congratulations to the qualifiers!!!

TO PAC PH Facebook page

These amazing and talented (and quite lucky too) qualifiers will be invited to attend an exclusive make up training and workshop on May 26, 2014 with Yuan Sng, an internationally renowned make-up artist from Singapore and a guest judge on Asia’s Next Top Model.

Hellooo durrr. (Guess who that is) It has been scorching hot lately and as much as I love sunny warm days (after experiencing around 5° C ---that one isn't fun) this is just too much! Highest recorded (day) temperature is 36° C but it feels at least 40° C. And the hot humid hair isn't helping at all.

Sunblock is a definite must no matter what season and even if the sun isn't peeking through during the day. Ultra Violet A (UVA) and Ultra Violet B (UVB)  rays do penetrate through clouds/tints/curtains etc. So don't think that shade is sparing you from harmful rays. The best those do is make you see a little better through the brightness..

Sun exposure is, essentially, subjecting yourself to sun damage – but in the same note, avoiding the outdoors altogether is both impractical and nearly impossible. - Dermplus

Now I didn't know that you're supposed to wear sunblock/spf everyday and throughout the seasons. I probably only learned this like 3-4 or so years ago? Just when I learned about BB creams. And before that had the misconception that sunblock is for when you go to the beach, go swimming or hiking.

Even then it hadn't really sunk in that I really need spf everyday, at the very least whenever I go out.

This slightly alarming image of an unknown truck driver definitely changed that mindset.Yep. That's for sure.

As you can clearly see, he has significant wrinkles on the left side of his face, probably the side which gets more sun exposure.

So kids, repeat after me. SUN PROTECTION is important.

Very good!

Dermplus, a brand I personally use (I use the SPF 80 one) is quite good and moisturizing. It helps soothe skin too while protecting you from the sun.

You can use it as a base under makeup but for oily skinned people and oily-combination skin, run away. It's very moisturizing, emollient and slippery not good if you want your makeup to stay for more than an hour.

For everyday house lounging, outings, hikings, beachings (?) it does the job. I mean SPF 80 is serious business much less SPF 130 which you would use if you're feeling a little crazy.

Dermplus Moisturizing Sunblock is available in all leading drugstores, supermarket and department stores nationwide.

PS. What do you use for sun protection? Is it included in your base of choice or do you use a separate one for everyday? Any recommendations?  I heard the Shiseido one is good because it gives a matte finish.
